- A slow working out of the potential between two parallel plates (web, pdf, nb)
- Near the begining of a very good book about science (which I highly recommend, I've never heard so much so well explained about the scientist's approach-to/view-of the world) is the following statement:
from The Canon: A Whirligig Tour of the Beautiful Basics of Science by Natalie Angier... the premise behind astrology is ridiculous ... the doctor or midwife or taxi driver who helped deliver you exerted a greater gravitational pull on you at your moment of birth than did the sun, the moon, or any of the planets.
What's wrong with it (besides the fact that the Earth is a planet)?
Spoilers after the jump (pdf, nb). Peeking before trying to work it out is like asking a magician how they did their trick, plus it's no fun.
