Recent developments in superconducting electronics at the University of
Savoie Mont Blanc
Superconducting digital electronics based on the Rapid Single Flux Quantum (RSFQ) technique allows to process signals with very low power consumption, very high speed in the microwave frequency range, while being interfaced with quantum-limited superconducting sensors. I will review briefly the domains for which this technique is used, before giving an overview of two fields of applications currently developed in the laboratory: digital magnetometers for observing faint events connected to the occurrence of earthquakes, and digital communications in the microwave range. For this last application I will describe the developments in progress with Josephson junctions with self-shunted SNIS barriers with the National Institute of Metrology in Torino, Italy and the Donetsk National University, Ukraine (now in Vinnytsia).
