Missing Transverse Energy for Top Physics
Introduction
Missing Transverse Energy (MET) in a collision event
is a measure of the imbalance in the energy in a plane transverse
to the beam axis. This imbalance occurs due to the particles that
escape detection such as neutrinos or other stable, weakly
interacting supersymmetric (SUSY) particles of new physics
phenomena. It could also occur due to mis-measurement of
transverse energy of detected particles. A precise measurement and
calibration of MET therefore necessary for precision measurements
as well as searches for new physics processes.
Top MET Liaison
MET liaison is responsible for providing a set of coherent
definitions of MET based on reconstructed physics objects used in
top analyses, validate the definitions, do various performance
studies which include resolution of MET in events with real and fake
MET, pileup studies, come up with a prescription for evaluating
systematic uncertainties etc. I have been the the MET liaison and
editor of the MET reconstruction for top analyses from Oct 2011 and
currently hold that position. I am also responsible to liaise
between Top Physics group and the Jet/EtMiss performance group, work
with and guide volunteers contributing to this effort by arranging
regular meetings and following up on studies and compiling/editing
results.
