ASSIGNMENTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

First assignment will be given the first day of class.
DUE ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION
December 3 at 11:15 AM Homework no. 11 (to be handed out in class Dec 1) Use Lagrangians to solve these two problems.
Tuesday November 30 at 3:00PM HOMEWORKS nos. 9 (not required - extra credit) and 10 Problems to be handed out in class Friday November 19 and/or Monday Nov. 22. Homework no. 9 (not required) is due Monday November 30. Homework no. 10 uses Lagrangians to solve the problems (Chapter 9) and is due Tuesday November 30 at 3:00 PM in my mailbox in the Physics Office room PSC 404.
Wednesday Nov. 17 (first hour) QUIZ no. 4 Study homeworks nos. 7 and 8 PLUS part of Chapter 3, especially sections 3.4, 3.13 and 3.14 and Chapter 7, sections 7.1 throught 7.3.
November 12 at 11:15 AM HOMEWORK no. 8 Problems 3.25, 3.35, 3.36, 3.40 and 3.50. In problem 3.36 find the potentials only for the conservative forces.
Friday Nov. 5 at 11:15 AM HOMEWORK no. 7 Problems 7.7, 7.9 and 3.47
Graduate students: in addition to the above problems hand in the solution to the hand-out problem of a coupled oscillator.
Use Figure 4.10 in the text book with all spring constants equal, i.e. k1 = k2 =k3 =k.

Friday Oct. 29 QUIZ no. 3 Study Homework no. 5 and read carefully sections 2.7 through 2.10. Prepare also to answer possible questions related to problems 2.36 and 2.37.
Friday Oct. 22 at 11:15 AM HOMEWORK no. 6 Problem 2.61 (The answer in the book is not correct.) Graduate students solve in addition the problem handed out in class. Study section 2.11 including Eqs. (2.205) and (2.206) in order to solve these problems.
