Rocket Propulsion

To demonstrate the basic principle of rocket propulsion by using standard carbon dioxide cartridges. It utilizes the reaction of compressed gases flowing out of a nozzle. A CO2 cartridge is placed into the cartidge holder at the far end of the rotating crossbar, the cap of the CO2 cartridge punctured and the outflowing gas causes the device to rotate. The speed of rotation depends on the mass flow of gas per unit time as it is ejected from the cartridge and thus is regulated by the size of the hole punctured into the cartridge cap. With a tiny puncture rotation will continue for three minutes. The crossbar is counter weighted for stability and swings on the support rod by means of an L-shaped bracket and self-lubricated ball bearing.
