While primarily designed fro use in the will known falling coin and feather experiment, it may also be used as fountain in vacuo and the Aurora tube experiments. Three uses are: (1) In coin and feather experiment. Remove from tripode, attach to air pump, open cock, exhaust tube, close cock and disconnect tube from pump. Rapidly invert tube, notice both metal disc and feather drop together. Open cock, air fills tube, notice how metal disc now reaches bottom first. (2) Fountain in vacuo. Exhaust tube as before, dip stopcock in under water. Open cock, water will enter tube with a rush, stream reaching the top of tube. (3) Aurora tube. Exhaust tube, connect stop cock and metal knob to terminals of an electric machine or an induction coil. The spark generated produces beautiful effects in tube.
