Tenure-track Assistant Professor Position in
Functional Nanomaterials
University of South Carolina
College of Arts & Sciences
Department of Physics & Astronomy
The University of South Carolina
invites applications in the field of experimental nanoscience or condensed
matter for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the Department of
Physics and Astronomy to begin August 16, 2009. Recently-installed shared equipment for nanofabrication and
characterization includes a clean room with optical and electron beam
lithography, a 6-target co-sputter deposition system with a separate ion beam
etch chamber, a Quantum Design PPMS with VSM capability, a RIE system, a
variety of ultra-low temperature cryostats, a vacuum evaporator, an ultrafast
laser system, and two AFM systems.
Candidates with backgrounds in magnetic materials, spintronics, or functionalized surfaces for
nanomaterials are especially encouraged to apply, but we also seek top
candidates with cross-disciplinary expertise in a variety of fields including
nanomechanics and nanobiophysics. The
successful candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous externally-funded
experimental research program that builds strong collaborations with our
ongoing efforts in nanomagnetism, nanoelectronics, superconductivity, and
biomaterials while demonstrating a commitment to excellence in education.
Candidates are requested to submit in
confidence a curriculum vitae, publication list, statement of research
interests and accomplishments, a research and teaching plan, and a minimum of
three letters of recommendation to:
Professor Richard A. Webb, Chair of the Condensed Matter Search
Committee, USC Physics and Astronomy, 712 Main St., Columbia, SC 29208. Inquiries may be directed to Professor
Webb at rawebb@physics.sc.edu. For full consideration, applications
must be received by December 1, 2008.
